New Zealand is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and one of the newest. Blessed with mountains, glaciers, amazing coast line, and landscape of every variety, it’s a wonderful place to visit, and with so many cheap flights to New Zealand around at the moment through the likes of DialAFlight, there’s never been a better time to visit.
Area – New Zealand is 268,680km which makes it about ten percent bigger than the United Kingdom, or, if you’re interested – roughly the same size as Colorado.
Population – There are, at the last count, around 4.2million Kiwis, which is a population which is just under 7% of the population of the UK. That’s not a lot of people in a fair amount of space, and one of the reasons why the wilderness in New Zealand is so untouched.
Population – There are 40 million sheep in New Zealand. It is physically impossible to visit the islands without seeing a sheep, and if you manage it, you get a medal at the airport when you leave (disclaimer: some of this sentence isn’t true).
Beer – There are 49 microbreweries in New Zealand (at the last count) and nearly all of them are well worth a visit, the Kiwis love their beer, and with good reason.
Tourists – The tourist industry in New Zealand is growing all the time, though the recent earthquakes have led to a reduction in the number of visitors, nonetheless around 2.5million tourists visited New Zealand last year.
Lord of the Rings – New Zealand is one of a handful of places in the world to have ‘Tolkien Tourism’, and with the upcoming Hobbit films set to offer another six hours of free advertising for the Kiwi tourist board, Tolkien Tourism is here to stay.
Glaciers – New Zealand is mountainous, and there are 3100 glaciers which are over 100metres long, and they are all (or at least, the majority of them) absolutely spectacular, make sure you take a trip up into the mountains when you visit.
Life Expectancy (People) – Around 80 years, with lots of good lamb to eat, and plenty of unique beer, life is good.
Life Expectancy (Trees) – There are trees in New Zealand that are over 2000 years old, unsurprisingly the New Zealand government is keen to look after them and if you go hiking make sure you obey the rules, or you’ll get used to feed the Orks.
Rugby – As if the pressure on the All Blacks every four years wasn’t big enough already, this year’s tournament will be held in New Zealand and kicks off in September.
New Zealand is an amazing place, you’re guaranteed a warm welcome and a holiday you’ll never forget, and if you want one final fact…there are no indigenous snakes in New Zealand – there is no such thing as useless information (perhaps).
